Jobs for mentally vulnerable citizens

Aalborg Kommune, Fokus Folkeoplysning, Det Obelske Familiefond og Den Sociale Kapitalfond work in a partnership to get more mentally vulnerable unemployed people into education or employment.

Why?

50% of long-term sick leave is due to mental health problems and 72% of mentally ill Danes are outside the labour market. New solutions are therefore needed to meet this challenge. With the project, we test social impact investments in a Danish context.

What?

120 mentally vulnerable unemployed people have been in a program at Fokus Folkeoplysning for more than three years. The aim is for half of the 120 citizens to achieve permanent employment or to start an education. Aalborg Municipality is only obliged to pay for the effort when they can ascertain concrete results and thus achieve savings in the form of lower maintenance costs.

How?

The project runs for more than three years. During the project period, Fokus Folkeoplysning has the opportunity to work extensively with the citizens in such a way that the best result in the long term is ensured. Den Sociale Kapitalfond ensures Fokus Folkeoplysning the necessary liquidity through the project.

What do the parties get out of it?

  • Aalborg Municipality has purchased an economically risk-free social effort, while at the same time the municipality gets a unique insight into how you as a municipality can work with social impact investments.
  • Fokus Folkeoplysning will have the opportunity to work extensively with citizens so that they can ensure the best effect in the long term, as they do not have the liquidity challenge that the performance contract entails.
  • Den Sociale Kapitalfond will have the opportunity to achieve a social and financial return in connection with our investment.
